About 75% of the nearly 30,000 students within the Des Moines Public Schools district (DMPS) qualify for free-or-reduced price meals. As a result, many students rely on school as a critical source of breakfast and lunch, and a way to alleviate the hunger that regularly plagues 1 in 5 children in Iowa.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of students within DMPS have been left without a secure supply of food.

Beginning Thursday, March 26, the DMPS Food and Nutrition Department plans to offer meals to students in need each day until school reopens. On Fridays, students will be given backpacks of food to last through weekends.

DMPS is in need of donations to supplement this effort. Please give a financial contribution of any size by visiting the 'Donate' button in the menu above.
