Site for Smiles and Smarts is excited to announce the creation of its newest initiative: the Zinda Music Group, an American band that performs classical Qawwali music, a centuries-old genre from South Asia.
As music knows no borders or limits, the Zinda Music Group hopes to build bridges between the East and West by bringing audiences together through the joy of Qawwali.
Known as the first genre of music, Qawwali originated in South Asia in the late 13th century, popularized by Hazrat Amir Khusrow. Performers usually sing songs of poetry in Urdu, the Pakistani language, and use instruments such as the tabla, the dholak, and the harmonium.
